A burger recipe can often seem complicated, but you can easily make restaurant-quality burgers at home and give those big burger chains a run for their money! Burgers are a matter of opinion, whether you like a simple patty on a bun with cheese or a tower stacked high, the choice is yours, burgers are one of the most versatile meals you can have. The patty makes the burger, you can source a burger patty or make your own using some steak mincemeat if you’re feeling adventurous.

Prep and Cooking

Once you’ve got your burger patty or 125g of steak mince, along with some salt, pepper, American cheese, your choice of salad (we recommend lettuce, chopped tomato and optional chopped red onion), ketchup, mustard and some burger buns it’s time to start!

Preheat your oven ready for later, for now, heat up a skillet with some oil and salt the top side of your burger. When your skillet is hot, place the burger salt side down for one minute, then salt the other side and flip. Now you want to smash the burger down with a fish slice or spatula until it reaches your desired look. Then flip back over and add American cheese for a lovely homemade cheeseburger, when the cheese starts to melt turn off the heat and remove the patty and get ready for a perfect smash burger.

Assembling the Burger

Now, this is the important part! Your patty might be done but you’re not, it’s time to build your burger masterpiece. Working from the bottom bun up add your patty, lettuce, tomato, optional onion and the top bun with ketchup. While you could eat the burger as it sits we recommend one last step to achieve a restaurant-quality burger.

Wrap the burger in tin foil and place it on the bottom shelf of your preheated oven for around 5 minutes, when you take it out of the oven, the burger will be heated through and melt the cheese, meat and toppings together for a perfect-looking homemade cheeseburger.

Finishing Touches

Adding a touch of extra effort can leave you with much tastier food! Herbs and spices can take your meals up a notch and add that extra kick you’ve been searching for. Make food fun again.

Whether you want something simple or feel like being creative, adding herbs and spices like cayenne pepper, paprika, onion powder and more can enhance the flavours.

Now the rest is up to you, serve it traditional style with chunky chips or fries that compliment burgers so well but don’t forget to experiment with different burger toppings and sides, instead of chips have sweet potato fries or onion rings. Play around with sauces, add some variation by adding some new burger sauces. Instead of beef burgers use turkey patties or turkey mince to make turkey burgers.

Get creative and make something worth looking forward to!
